Purpose for Seeking OfficeThere are times in our lives when we as people of faith and citizens of this great country are moved toward action in public service. For me, this is such a time. As an instructor of United States Government and United States History, I realized that all the schooling by my former teachers, mentors and family, which assists me in the noble profession of education, will assist me in public service. My aspiration and passion to serve are passed down to me from my father, who taught me the values of our Democratic Republic and the American Dream. These values promote liberty of individuals, families and communities, and a social and economic environment where government referees and insists on equality and justice for all. To promote the American Dream and uphold these Republican values, the government must safeguard liberty, the rights of property and limit taxation. The American Dream is the key to the promise of this great country. However, the promise today cannot be maintained through the use of entitlements, tax expenditures and the over regulation of industries. Welfare for the poor or the wealthy destroys opportunity, and illegal immigration and over regulation distorts a fair economic playing field for the small businesses, which make our country great. The idea of legal citizenship and civics in our Republic strengthens the American Dream, promising opportunity while uniting the homeland. Past generations of citizens’ hard work have ensured that all Americans have a chance to live that dream. Past struggles have left us a wealthy nation with a beautiful environment where individuals have the opportunity to pursue their callings in life. For me, that calling is to be a representative of the people in the freest government the world has ever known, a government capable of lifting people to higher ground. My duty, as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, would be to serve my country by representing the needs of the individuals in our district. |
